Castle Ptuj

The castle was built on the place of a former fortress in the 12th century. The Archbishop of Salzburg had it built. It played an important role during the fights with the Turks in the 16th century. Its final form was created in the 17th century. The last owner of the castle was the Herberstein family. Now it is a museum. The painting collection of the Herberstein family can be seen in the castle. We enter the castle via the renessaince Pezzui Gate. The building of the castle has been renovated.
