Some best practices and 5 cycling packages have been presented on the regional workshop organized by ZKTŠ MS, which are developed in the region of the former iron curtain. They are available in the publication and on the original website of the project (www.icc.zala.hu).
On the second weekend of January the fair area of Stuttgart became lively, since the traditional CMT fair – which kept the title of the largest tourism and leisure fair of the world even in this year - has been held at that time. The 9-days fair started with the Fahrrad- & WanderReisen fair dealing with cycling and hiking, on which ZRS Bistra Ptuj introduced the Iron Curtain Cycling project. Our stand was placed in the centre of Hall 9, on a favourable place, thus a number of potential visitors of our region inquired curiously about our offer.
The road - suitable also for cycling – connecting Lendvadedes, Dedeskecskés and the Slovenian Dolga Vas, that is built in the framework of Iron Curtain Cycling project between Tenke-hill at Rédics and Lendava-hill in Slovenia, has been inaugurated officially.
The geographically, ethnically organic Slovenia-Hungary cross border region was divided for long by the Iron Curtain enforcing the borderlines set after World War II. Relations faded, municipalities came to a social, economic decline. The cross border region offers great opportunities for bicycle tourism, which might be the breakout point in the rural area. Several projects have already aimed this goal, however a connected and signposted bicycle road network covering the whole region and a complex biker-friendly offer built on this network has not yet been achieved.
