Cycling conference in Lenti

On 30th of May 2019, EuroVelo 13 International Cycling Conference took place in Lenti which was an exceptional opportunity to get to know of the latest cycling related initiatives. Venue of the event was the Thermal Hotel Balance where national and international experts presented the current situation and future plans of cycling.

Among the many prominent participants, Michael Cramer (Member of the European Parliament, „godfather” of the iron curtain trail), Adam Bodor (representative of the European Cyclists’ Federation -ECF ) have to be highlighted, as well as national cycling coordinatoors, representatives of National EuroVelo Coordination Centres - Peter Klučka (Slovakia),  Uroš Rozman   (Slovenia),   Julia   Beckel   (Austria). Leaders of three Hungarian counties of Western Transdanubia, Zoltán Németh (President of the General Assembly of Győr-Moson-Sopron County), Imre Pácsonyi (Vice-President of the General Assembly of Zala County), Bálint Kondora (Vice-President of the General Assembly of Vas County), and Béla Németh (repsenentative of GYSEV-Raaberbahn AG) were also attended and presented their current and planned developments about cycling and sustainable mobility.

The presentations pointed out the territorial differences related to the environment of cycling and defined well the the existing obstacles to overcome.

Besides the Hungarian cycling networks, strategies, and main results of sustainable tourism development, the international trends were presented as well. Participants heard about current activities and plans for the next 3-5 years focusing on EuroVelo routes.

On the next day following the conference (31 May 2019) the participating cyclists could take part on a 45 km long cycling tour along the Iron Curtain, both on the Slovenian and the Hungarian side. The tour started in Lenti, then led through Tenke-hill on the road built in the framework of the project to the Vinarium on Lendava Hill and to the city of Lendava, afterwards they went towards Bödeháza. In the Friendship Park of Bödeháza the participants were received by a meal and drinks, then they returned to Lenti going through Rédics.
