Developing cycling tourism

The workshops organized by Cultural, Tourism and Sports Institution in Murska Sobota (Zavod za kulturo, turizem in šport) on 7th and 14th December 2018 aimed at developing a cooperation network and working out cycling-friendly service packages within the Iron Curtain Cycling project being implemented by the support of Interreg V-A Slovenia – Hungary Cooperation Program.

Tourism and cycling service providers were invited to the workshops and those who intend to develope their cycling-friendly service offers. The known best practices were introduced by Matej Obu (Zadruga BikeLab Maribor), Uroš Rozman (RRA Koroška) and Polona Blažič (Zavod Angita).

The participants – altogether 43 persons took part on the workshops – got familiar with the best practices, such as the cycling route along Drava (Uroš Rozman), its development, sections, popularization, the involvement of service providers, etc.

Polona Blažič demonstrated the opportunities of cycling tourism by an Austrian good practice: the opportunities for cycling tourism and making cycling tourism more popular (placing it on the market comparing to the other products, cycling profile, offer development and promotion, development of cycling tourism, etc.).

The participants of the workshops developed products, as well, which enrich the tourism offer of the region with new elements, and contribute to the diversification of the tourism of the border region by a complex cycling tourism offer.
