ICC Family day in Zala

The ICC Family Day has been held on 18 May in the framework of the Iron Curtain Cycling project, that is implemented by three Hungarian and three Slovenian partners with the leadership of Zala County Government. The central venue of the event was the sports field of Rédics.

The aim of the program was to raise the interest of the inhabitants, families, service providers and the visitors in the tourist attractions, natural and cultural values of the region, which can be discovered also on foot or by bycicle tours.

The bikers preferring the greater challenges could take part on a 30 km long, guided cross-border tour starting from Rédics, going through Tenke- hill  to the Vinarium and the Hadik chapel on Lendva-hill, before arriving back to the starting point going by Dolga Vas and Genterovci. The ones, who chose the shorter route (10 km) started from Lentiszombathely and got to Rédics through Lenti. On the sports field health screening, a fair of local products, plays for children, rushes and sports programs, cycling shows expected them.

The ones preferring hiking could go to a 12 km long tour in Hetés, where they visited the „Fumu-house” in Zalaszombatfa, then the Museum of Hetés Folkweaves and tasted also „fumu” the famous confectionery of the region. The participants preferring longer distances could join the 15 km long walking tour titled ”Eco-tourism experiences along Kerka river” and went through the park-forest of Lenti on the Wild flower educational path, having a look at the beavers’ habitat at Kerka, while finally they got to the habitat of iris sibirica near Bárszentmihályfa.

Following the tours the organizers provided warm meals for the participants in Rédics, where presentations have been held during the day on promoting the healthy life-style, cycling  and road safety, as well.
