Iron Curtain Cycling Regional workshop in Lenti

The participants talked about elaborating regional service packages for developing cycling tourism in the Slovenia – Hungary border region.

The Iron Curtain Cycling project – being implemented under the leadership of Zala County Government – aimes at establishing a joint cycling tourist destination along the border. Beside the infrastructural developments it requiers also the networking of the involved service providers. The purpose of the workshops is offering an opportunity for the shareholders to exchange their experiences and elaborate joint offers for the guests arriving in the region.

Imre Pácsonyi, vice-president of the General Assembly of Zala County opened the event in Lenti and explained that although the infrastructural development is in progress now, but the forming of such service packages is also important, which are not only interesting for the visitors, but make them able to plan the journey or holiday, as well.

Then the participants of the project – Zala and Vas counties, and Lendava, Murska Sobota, Ptuj from the other side of the border – introduced the local service packages elaborated by them with the aim to offer interesting adventures and experiences for the guests even for a longer stay. Up till now 25 local service packages have been developed, including 1-3 days cycling tours.

Afterwards the participants of the meeting worked in groups and took suggestions concerning the elements of the cross-border packages, and discussed their ideas and views on the future plans and cycling tourism developments.

As a closing of the event, Zoltán Pámer expert summerized the suggestions came up, which can be bases for elaborating the cross-border service packages.

The 2nd regional workshop will be held probably in May in the region of Murska Sobota.
