On the activities and results of the local service providers’ workshops organized in the framework of Iron Curtain Cycling project

Within the ICC project the project partner Vas county held two local service providers’ workshops, where they created complex regional packages for cycling tourism involving the local steakholders. In the followings we summerize the results of the workshops, then introduce the content of the tourist packages.

1. Workshop, 21 September 2018, Szentgotthárd

The workshop started with an introduction by which the local steakholders and other regional actors summerized their existing offers for cycling tourism.

In the first presentation Anikó Neuwirthné Bilics project manager introduced the Iron Curtain Cycling project, its already implemented elements and the future activities. She mentioned that in the course of the next forum of the project the participants are expected to plan joint route- and service packages.

Then by the presentation of Albert Kevy, head of the eco-tourism and environmental education department of Őrség National Park, we got acquainted with the tourist sights of the region and the developments of the National Park, one of the largest regional actors. The participants contributed to the discussion with their remarks.  

Finally Mária Csikai, the expert of Jóügy Ltd., spoke about the topic of cycling-friendly services and promotion.

The workshop ended by introducing and handing over the publication prepared for the cycling-friendly service providers, and a discussion about the importance of the regional stakholders’ networking.

2. Workshop, 2 October 2018, Öriszentpéter

This workshop started with the introduction of the participants and a presentation by Anikó Neuvirthné Bilics, in order to give a summary on the project and provide an opportunity for the local service providers and other steakholders which could not take part at the first meeting to get acquainted with each others.

In the followings Gábor Arany expert held a presentation on the elements of the cycling infrastructure, the current situation of the route of Iron Curtain Trail and the cycling trails of Vas county.

In her presentation Mária Csikai explained the cycling tourists’ needs and their breakdown by target groups, then explained which promotion, marketing messages are worth to highligt for certain targetgroups. Then as an example for the participants of the workshop she presented a package developed for cyclists.

In the remaining part of the workshop the participants worked together by collecting ideas and forming the potential tourist packages for defined targetgroups, lengths of route and/or thematics. The routes were different concerning their thematics and character: the teamwork resulted two tours with the topic of Iron Curtain, a sacral one and two nature-friendly family ones.

Afterwards the group jointly defined the services of the routes, then the exact trail was fixed by the volunteers’ further online work considering the remarks of the experts.
